**About Us**:
The Energy Operations Division is tasked with the management of Alberta’s energy and mineral rights, and the assessment and collection of royalties related to the development of those rights. The primary goal is to enable the efficient, transparent and sustainable development of Alberta’s mineral and energy resources in order to generate revenue for the Crown and to drive investment in jobs for Albertans.

The Policy Analyst in the Operational Projects unit of the Energy Operations Division operates in a dynamic and complex environment involving a multitude of internal and external stakeholders. The unit supports teams across the division to deliver priority initiatives on a project-by-project basis.

The analyst is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of strategic priorities and initiatives consistent with Alberta Energy and Minerals' business plan goals (e.g., sub-surface energy policy development, leasing and managing Crown mineral petroleum and natural gas rights, policy implementation related to royalty programs, geothermal and CCUS policy implementation, etc.). The position plays a key role in supporting the division in its development, operationalization and implementation of key strategic and policy priorities and programs, and directly contributes to the long-term success of the department.

The Policy Analyst must operate in an environment of ambiguity. Roles, responsibilities, processes and deliverables are often fluid and left to project teams to determine. This position demands a focus on client priorities and needs, creative problem-solving abilities and requires the policy analyst to exercise sound judgment and factor in a variety of perspectives when considering potential solutions to issues.

**The Policy Analyst**:

- Supports policy implementation and coordinates issues related to Energy Operation division’s projects and initiatives;
- Supports operational issues related to Energy's priority initiatives, ensuring they are accurate and compliant with government decision-making requirements and legislative requirements; and
- Coordinates/communicates policy and issues activities within Energy and Minerals.
- Supports good governance for Energy and Mineral’s projects and initiatives.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
- Strong analytical, research, and interpersonal skills.
- Highly developed and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner.
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and deliver results.
- Strategic thinker who can see the big picture and provide advice.
- Strong computer skills and in-depth Microsoft Office suite working experience is required.

The following skills and abilities would be considered strong assets for the position:

- Knowledge of Alberta’s energy sector and legislation.
- Experience with government processes and the steps required for policy development and implementation.
- Well-developed project management and business analysis skills.
- Experience drafting reports, briefing notes, option papers, etc.
- Excellent written communication skills with an aptitude for detail and accuracy and the ability to modify writing style for different target audiences.
