Within the Innovation, Privacy and Policy Division in Technology and Innovation, the Privacy, Policy, and Governance Branch enables government transparency and accountability through enterprise policy and program services for content management, data, technology, privacy and access to information. The Branch also enhances the strategic capacity of the department and the integration of data, content, technology, and privacy initiatives across the Department. Core to this function is leadership on high-priority Department initiatives. The Branch provides strategic and proactive policy coordination and strategic engagement advice, planning and coordination to support Department priorities and business outcomes.

**Salary**: $2,345.14 to $3,076.28 bi-weekly ($61,208 - $80,290/year)

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager Strategic Engagement, this position is responsible for the development and monitoring of the Government of Alberta's policy instruments for access to information and privacy. Policy scope includes everything from legislation to guidance on access to information and privacy at an enterprise level.

**Responsibilities**:
Some of this role’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Assisting in conducting research, jurisdictional scanning, and gathering information related to existing access to information and privacy legislation in Alberta and other jurisdictions, as well as emerging trends in the access and privacy field.
- Gathering input and perspectives to inform the development of policy instruments.
- Contributing to the drafting of policy documents, briefing notes, presentations, and other materials for department leadership and other audiences.
- Maintaining open and collaborative communication channels within the team.
- Assisting in administrative tasks, such as scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, taking detailed notes, and managing correspondence.

- Self-directed research skills - to explore professional literature for best practices and to find out how other jurisdictions are handling similar issues.
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting and able to organize and contribute to project teams and committees to achieve work objectives.
- Aptitude for problem solving and decision-making, as well as mature judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:

- University graduation in a related field such as Business Administration, Access to Information, Communications, Information Management, Public Administration.
- No experience required.

**Equivalencies**:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

**Assets**:

- Some related work experience in access to information and/or privacy policy.
- Knowledge of policy development.
- Knowledge and understanding of the legislation (Acts and Regulations), programs, policies, practices, and precedents governing access to information and privacy; Government Organization Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Personal Information Protection Act, Financial Administration Act, Public Service Act, Government Accountability Act, and the Records Management Regulation.
- Experience in research, analysis, environmental scanning, and issues identification/management.
- Experience in preparing briefing materials, action requests, plans, policy packages meeting agendas, presentations.
