**Strategic Integration, Policy and Legislation Division**

The Strategic Integration, Policy and Legislation Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) supports the Ministry and the children, youth, young adults, and families that it serves by providing advice and support on a range of functions. This includes strategic and operational policy; strategic implementation, communications, and external engagements on priority projects; legislation; litigation; research, and expertise and support on several cross-government initiatives.

**Policy, Legislation and Litigation Branch**

Policy, Legislation & Litigation branch serves as the hub for cross-Ministry services and supports related to legislation and legal support, litigation, strategic policy, research, and engagement.

**Job Overview**

Children and Family Development is the largest consumer of legal services in the BC Government. The Manager, Legislation & Legal Support leads legislative and legal services projects within required timeframes and leads legislative and program initiatives that implements MCFD ’s strategic objectives. The Manager, MCFD Legislation & Legal Support, with the ministry solicitors at the Legal Services Branch (LSB) in the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) ensures legal advice provided is timely and relevant, frequently under tight time restraints and stressful conditions. The Manager, with LSB, manages the contracts for approximately 50 contract legal counsels acting for the Director under the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA).

As the Manager, Legislation & Legal Support, you will provide strategic advice on complex legal, economic, policy and legal service issues to senior management, ministry executive and government officials.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**:

- Degree in public administration, law (LLB or equivalent), or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of two years of related experience. Related experience MUST include:

- Experience developing strategic policy initiatives, either through the development of legislation, regulations and/or broad-scale policies or programs.
- Experience analyzing and resolving complex legal, procedural and legislative issues in a government or regulatory environment.
- Experience interpreting legislation and regulations,
- Experience drafting policies, contracts, leases or other legal documents
- Experience managing projects and/or project components

NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES).
