An exciting opportunity is available for a Manager of Projects position responsible for managing day-to-day activities within the Project Management (PM) group, developing and maintaining company PM processes and procedures, overseeing project management staff and collaborating and coordinating with multi-discipline engineering department/team leaders for the successful execution of all projects executed at JNE.
Lead a team of project managers, project engineers, and project coordinators
Accountable for ensuring the successful execution of all projects including budget, scheduling, and profitability
Maintains a high level of Project Management competence
Establishes and maintains project management and engineering deliverable management processes
Ensures that projects are managed according to the approved Project Execution Plan (PEP)
Working with project stakeholders such as clients, JNE project sponsors, and other departments within the organization to ensure that projects meet their goals and objectives
Provides guidance and support to Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Project Coordinators throughout the duration of a project
Participates in lessons learned meetings as required and disseminate lessons learned information to project management team
Ensures the successful execution of engineering services on all projects
Ensures Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Project Coordinators establish milestone dates for project deliverables and tasks in cooperation with the Engineering Discipline Managers / Discipline Leads in accordance with the Project Execution Plan
Assists in mentoring of new Project Managers / Project Engineers / Project Coordinators and ensures that new hires are trained and progressing
Leverages the core knowledge, skills, and abilities of the team members in order to support the project and the ongoing company operations
Ensures Project Managers develop and maintain a project deliverable lists for all projects for earned value analysis
Ensures Project Managers develop project performance trending analysis with control measures based on earned value methodology
Participates in reviewing discipline quotes and scope changes as applicable
Develops the engineering schedule and project labour resource requirements in cooperation with Engineering Manager/Project Manager and VP Engineering
Reviews and develops a project spend plan as it relates to project execution, schedule, cash flow, etc.
Identify and manage project risks and issues, and develop and implement mitigation strategies
Ensure that projects meet and exceed quality and safety standards
Ensures that site specific safety training is conducted and documented
Actively engages in the promotion of the company
Actively engages in creation of new business opportunities
Assists Human Resources with the overall responsibility of personnel management
Qualifications and Skills
15-20 years of engineering experience
15 years of project management with engineering deliverable management experience
P.Eng. or P.E. designation an asset
PMP Certification an asset
Major Project Engineering management experiences, preferably in Iron & Steel, Mining, Heavy Industry, and Chemical
Experience leading a team of Project Managers and Engineers
Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve project goals
Excellent understanding of engineering execution processes and associated design inputs
Basic understanding of project management software, such as MS Projects, Primavera (P6)
Excellent understanding of Project Deliverable System (such as FEL gated processes)
Excellent understanding of construction principles
Ability to make complex decisions in an effective and efficient manner
Ability to successfully manage multiple projects
Ability to effectively coordinate and manage resources
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients and stakehol
