North Vancouver, Canada St. Catherine's Anglican church Full time

Purpose: This new position at St Catherine’s Anglican Church is a pilot project seeking to empower and support our congregation to enhance existing or to establish new networks to strengthen the relations and engagement of the parish to its broader community. We are seeking someone who will (1) support communication and participation within the St. Catherine’s congregation and (2) strategically engage with the wider community outside our church.

In collaboration with our clergy, office assistant, Parish Council and volunteers, the incumbent will provide leadership, encouragement, vision and action to the various initiatives and ministry streams which further the vision for St. Catherine’s to be a thriving multicultural and multi generational faith community in North Vancouver, as envisaged in our Ministry Plan (2021-2025).

Job Responsibilities:
40% Support communication and participation within the St. Catherine’s community:

- Oversee the design and messaging of weekly bulletins, e-newsletters, and all print advertising;
- Solicit comments on our services and connect with online service viewers;
- Regular meetings with volunteer parishioners who live, work and serve in the neighhourhood;
- Develop a Parish Social Action Committee to influence outreach activities and connect with outreach partners;
- Plan and oversee implementation of opportunities for the congregation to engage and build relationships with our Edgemont Village neighbours and the wider North Shore community, including renewal of our thanksgiving dinner in partnership with North Shore services;
- Monitor the plans, projects, and programs that will be established by the parish on community relations and regularly provide updates on their achievements to Parish Council; and
- Supports parish-wide meetings (including Vestry) by compiling the annual yearbook and coordinating event promotion.

45% Engagement with the surrounding neighbourhood:

- Establish a community database of organizations, people, and their services that will be a useful reference for church leaders.
- Enhance external communication on the church website, YouTube, and social media platforms;
- Participate in recruiting rental groups and building their relationship with St. Catherine’s and with each other;
- Strengthening St Catherine’s partnership with the community garden associations;
- Represent St. Catherine’s at Edgemont Village Business Association meetings;
- Work with the program directors at local seniors’ residences to re-establish St Catherine’s outreach to seniors in our community;
15%. Administrative support for the work of Parish Council and Committees of Parish Council:

- Be a supportive and encouraging presence as part of the staff and team of St. Catherine’s.
- Participate in monthly Parish Council meetings (some of which may be in the evening); and
- Provides administrative support for the committees of Parish Council to ensure the Ministry Plan and community engagement goals are met.

**Requirements**:

- A passion for connecting with people and networking in communities.
- Ability to build partnerships and lead volunteers effectively;
- Ability to work with all age groups, from children and youth to seniors;
- Excellent communication skills in written and oral English;
- Willingness to work within a faith
- based organization with Christian Values;
- A self-starter with the ability to think creatively and strategically;
- Administrative and organizational skills, and
- Computer literate with an eye for typesetting and visual design.

Experience in working with or participating in different community groups and a degree from a recognized university in Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is an asset.

Job Description: This half-time, coordinator position enhances our internal communication, supporting the work of Parish Council and leads our engagement with the neighbourhoods surrounding St. Catherine’s using the services of the Priest-in-Charge, other staff and volunteers, with special attention to community organizing opportunities and efforts. This position may share some duties with our clergy, including staffing various church committees. This position reports directly to our Priest-in-Charge and is an ex-officio member of Parish Council.
