Compensation Range

$5,906.25 - $8,508.42 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Research at the Faculty of Medicine (FoM) Office of Research, the Scientific Communications & Engagement Strategist is responsible for initiating, developing, managing and delivering a full range of internal communications services in support of the FoM’s strategic research priorities. In collaboration with the Office of Creative and Communication, this position engages in production and distribution of stories on strategic research initiatives and builds effective relationships with various central and faculty stakeholders to develop opportunities for integrated and collaborative communication projects, campaigns and stories. This position will drive the use of best practice in communications within the Office of Research to engage its stakeholders and liaises closely with FoM’s Office of Creative and Communications, FoM Development and Alumni Engagement, and external communication parties.

Organizational Status

This position reports to the Senior Director, Research and works collaboratively with members of the Office of Research, Development and Alumni Engagement, Office of Creative and Communications, Senior UBC administration, Faculty members.

The Scientific Communications & Engagement Strategist interacts regularly and consults with staff, students, and faculty members across campus and a variety of other members of the University community.

Work Performed- Leads the strategic planning for unit-level communications within the Office of Research;- Synthesize concepts and ideas into clear, concise and compelling written documents that generate enthusiasm and interest;- Researches, writes, edits, proofreads, and designs communication material for dissemination, including letters, speeches, blog posts, social media posts, op-eds, reports, promotional material, academic content and presentations and other materials in support of the Office of Research;- Responsible for initiating, developing and managing a full range of communications plans, events/programs and materials to support large-scale and high-visibility Faculty programs and initiatives;- Develops and implements innovative and effective communications campaigns to various stakeholder audiences and support the strategic goals and objectives of FoM’s research portfolio;- Develops, implements, and analyzes communication and marketing metrics to make evidence-based decisions on project improvements, milestones, and achievements;- Works closely with the Office of Creative & Communications in drafting strategies and policies to ensure alignment with broader strategic initiatives, internal and external communications guidelines, sharing of best practices, and maintaining UBC brand standards;- Maintains familiarity with major communications trends, issues, and technologies;- Works collaboratively with members of the FoM’s Offices, UBC's senior administration, faculty members, and other departments across campus to develop communication materials;- Responsible for project management of all engagement materials;- Develops, designs and maintains content on Office of Research’s digital properties, including websites;-
