As a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA), the incumbent advises international students on all matters related to their immigration status at VCC to ensure that they make informed decisions and are compliant with their study and work responsibilities. Reporting to the Manager, International Student Services, the incumbent takes a lead role in monitoring immigration information and updates and relays information to the International Education team and other departments as required. This position assists with VCC’s internationalization initiatives, including participating in strategic planning and assisting with management of the overall fiscal operation of international programs and projects. This position liaises with internal and external stakeholders to design, deliver and monitor various international student engagement activities such as orientation, workshops and other initiatives to support international student success. In addition, the position supervises the International Education Clerk B Specialist (reception) position.**Job Duties/Responsibilities**
- Assist students who are in violation of regulations to reinstate their status (if possible) and problem solve immigration options as necessary
- Provide guidance to current international students to help resolve issues related to Canadian immigration, medical insurance, academic challenges and support, registration problems, health issues and other unique situations.
- Interpret policy information such as, but not limited to: academic probation, suspension, refund and deferral to support students through decision-making processes.
- Develop, deliver and evaluate international student programming and workshops which address immigration issues for international students including: o Study permit, work permit, and temporary resident visa requirements and processes o Transition and immigration related workshops for graduating students
- Act as the resource for IRCC procedures and updates; serve as a liaison to ensure that changes to IRCC guidelines and updates are communicated to the College community
- Take a lead role in monitoring immigration information and updates, and relay information to the International Education team and other departments as required. In consultation with the Manager, International Student Services, may make recommendations for changes in procedures when appropriate.
- Complete required professional development annually to maintain RISIA designation
- Maintain knowledge of current developments of IRCC Regulations and Policies.
- Work closely with the Manager, International Student Services, to develop and implement sustainable international programs within given budgets and in accordance with VCC’s academic and strategic plans while adhering to VCC and IRCC policies and procedures.
- Supervise and provide leadership to direct reports by coaching and modeling key behaviours/strategies, encouraging dialogue and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to work issues. Assists team members to define shared and individual goals, meet target dates and ensure alignment of team goals. Monitor and assess performance. Ensure adequate staffing to meet scheduled commitments. Authorize timesheets, work and vacation schedules, leaves of absence, overtime and substitution.
- Contribute to effective employee and labour relations by administering the collective agreement(s), representing management in the grievance process and consulting with Human Resources regarding collective agreement interpretation, as appropriate. Provide input to management negotiating team for collective bargaining purposes, as needed.
