EXEL Research Inc. is a family-owned and operated company. It was founded in September 1984 by Dr. Savvas Chamberlain. The head office of EXEL is in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
EXEL carries out business in three areas. It invests in small to medium sized local businesses, primarily in high-tech. However, it also believes in the importance of healthy manufacturing companies in Ontario and Canada, manages vacation and commercial rental properties and also manages investment portfolios.
EXEL’s investment portfolios include investments in both small/medium companies and in blue-chip large-capitalization international companies.
**GENERAL SUMMARY**:
Supports the accounting and bookkeeping functions of EXEL Research Inc, and 6 other entities in accounting/ bookkeeping, financial reporting and tax preparation. This includes, but is not limited to, provision of accounting/ bookkeeping services, and backup services to the Controller. Cooperates with the VP of finance in the achievement of the Entities’ goals. Keeping informative and accurate records in both softcopy (on the EXEL server) and hardcopy files for all Entities is of the utmost importance. Protection of EXEL and personal data is paramount in this position.
Interacts with VP of Operations and Facilities Manager to carry out the day-to-day internal activities related to management of all real estate properties. This includes but is not limited to record keeping, accounting, coordination and communications with tenants and suppliers.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Responsible for full cycle bookkeeping relating to all real estate properties.
2. Responsible for Year End procedures related to real estate properties including preparing year end files, correspondence with external accountant and finalization of year end documents.
3. Responsible for accounting, administration and maintenance of the organization’s entities, including a trust.
4. Tracking of prepaid rents, unearned revenue and deposits
5. Performance of TMI reconciliation for all entities (quarterly reconciliation and yearly reporting)
6. Perform sales tax calculations and filings, including but not limited to HST, Florida sales tax and Collier sales tax in a timely manner
7. Backup for Controller for day-to-day investment and other bookkeeping
8. Record keeping, contract review, monthly reporting, data analysis and reporting to executive management, maintenance and updating of tasks spreadsheets for all properties.
9. Analysis and documentation of current procedures and controls for property management systems and processes
10. Generation and presentation of monthly reports and others as requested in a timely manner.
11. Interaction and correspondence with external service providers, contractors and other parties related to real estate properties.
12. Any other tasks which may be assigned from time to time.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
1. Post-secondary diploma or degree specializing in accounting, finance or equivalent.
2. CPA designation would be an asset, but not a requirement.
3. 3 plus years of experience in full cycle accounting and analysis. Both investment accounting and real estate accounting experience would be assets.
4. Training and experience with QuickBooks software.
5. Proficient Excel skills
6. Excellent organizational skills.
7. Strong problem-solving skills.
8. Gather and analyze information skillfully.
9. Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and meet tight deadlines.
10. Effective oral and written communication.
11. Self-motivated, expert attention to detail and efficient work ethic
12. Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office.
