The Office of the Dean provides leadership in academic programming and services to the campus, ensuring a positive and academically responsive environment to change. Within the broader University community, the Vice-Principal Academic & Dean represents the policies and points of view of U of T Scarborough, and makes independent judgments on University matters. Within U of T Scarborough, the Vice-Principal Academic & Dean promotes the teaching, research, and scholarship of the faculty, the career development of the administrative staff, and the over-all well-being of students.

**Your opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager, Academic HR and Faculty Affairs, the Faculty Development Administrator has primary responsibility for implementing and supporting faculty development programs and materials for faculty and academic administrators at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The Faculty Development Administrator contributes to faculty development discussions, including identifying and acting on the best ways to convey specific and important policy information to faculty and academic administrators and to encourage and engage faculty in conversations about best practices. They work closely with the Vice-Dean Faculty Affairs, Equity, & Success (VDFAES) in considering how faculty development programs can best support our faculty. This includes staying abreast of developments at peer institutions and considering and making recommendations regarding the impact of changing policies and context. They are expected to engage with the work of the VDFAES substantively and understand the content and the role of the Office well enough to draft and finalize materials conveying policy and HR information and to ensure such information is clearly communicated and/or made accessible on the website of the Dean where appropriate.

The incumbent must have an excellent understanding of the breadth of responsibilities handled by the VDFAES and of the University’s policies and procedures relating to Academic HR. The incumbent works in an environment that requires a high degree of team-work, sensitivity, responsiveness and a need to maintain absolute confidentiality. The incumbent must present a professional image by interacting knowledgeably and courteously with people including the Dean, Vice-Deans, Chairs, other senior administrators, faculty, and staff who come in contact with the Office of the Dean.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Overseeing day-to-day operational needs of the unit
- Implementing plans that support University and/or divisional strategic priorities including coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders.
- Leading seminars and/or workshops including conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities.
- Tracking and maintaining a calendar of events.
- Keeping well-informed on leadership commitments and priorities and informing senior staff of impending deadlines.
- Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
- Assessing and revising processes that support administrative activities and objectives.
- Directing the activities of a single staff-appointed employee.

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five (5) years' faculty development and administrative experience in an academic environment or related setting. Must have training and experience in professional development programming and/or adult education with demonstrated experience organizing events.
- Advanced writing, editing, and presentations skills with commitment to excellence.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), website maintenance software (e.g. WordPress, Drupal), content management systems (e.g. SharePoint), and databases in order to generate statistics, analytics and reporting.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of University academic norms including the tenure process and the academic life cycle.
- Superior interpersonal and customer service skills to deal tactfully, professionally and with discretion working effectively with faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders.
