**About Us**:
**The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation** is responsible for policies, legislation, regulations and services necessary for Alberta’s agriculture and food sectors to grow, prosper and diversify, inspiring public confidence in the quality and safety of food, and supporting environmentally sustainable resource management practices.

**Trade Investment and Food Safety Division** is responsible to expand and diversify Alberta’s food and bio-product manufacturing sector in local and global markets while also providing effective food safety assurance systems. The division’s work is divided among four branches.

**The Intergovernmental Relations and Trade Branch** provides analysis, advice, and coordinates a number of files, engagements and negotiations in the areas of intergovernmental relations, international market access and development, domestic and international trade policy, investment attraction in support of Agriculture and Irrigation’s strategic and operational outcomes to advance industry growth and diversification.

**Role**:
**We are currently looking for Business Policy Analyst who will provide policy advice to the Minister and Executive Team on policies affecting the competitiveness and success of agri-food businesses in Alberta.**

To be effective, this position must have a detailed understanding of evolving business and labour situations, including provincial and federal programs and legislation that impact businesses.

The position will need to maintain a wide network of contacts across industry and governments, analyze complex information, stay current on trends and challenges in business and labour policy and provide effective policy options for the Ministry.

In this exciting role, you will take direct responsibility for research, analysis and review of policies and challenges affecting the success of primary agriculture and the agri-food sectors, including:

- Impacts on business that restricts growth,
- Rural and urban barriers to attracting and retaining workers,
- Impacts of changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program,
- Self-directed research and analysis,
- Responding or providing input to Action Requests, Telephone Action Requests and Briefing Notes, and
- Assisting in Section operations as needed.

Awareness of agriculture is an asset, and an ability to solve problems creatively is a critical attribute for this position.

The ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with staff in Agriculture and Irrigation, partner ministries and external contacts is required to be successful in this role.

**Qualifications**:
**University graduation degree** preferably in Business, Business Policy, Business Administration, or a related field and **four (4) years** progressively responsible related experience

**Additional requirements**:

- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

**Equivalencies maybe considered - directly related education or experience considered on the basis of**:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
