Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director, Office of Indigenous Initiatives (Associate Director), the Indigenous Training Lead is responsible for fostering understanding, awareness and cultural sensitivity, competence, and safety across the campus community, through the delivery of Indigenous Training workshops requested by any department, faculty member, staff group or student organization. The Indigenous Training Lead is responsible for the identification, development, coordination, administration, and delivery of training programs and workshops (i.e. Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, Blanket Exercise, Land Acknowledgement workshop, Indigenous Certificate program), and they will recruit, train and supervise a team to facilitate and support the delivery of training workshops, as needed. The Indigenous Training Lead works with teaching and learning specialists and colleagues for the research, design, and development of the training programs. Working effectively as a member of a team, the Indigenous Training Lead will also support the key goals and objectives identified in the Office of Indigenous Initiatives strategic plan and the wider University strategic plan.

**Job Description**:

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Plans, coordinates, and implements the delivery of the Indigenous Cultural Safety Program and other training workshops to interested departments, faculty members, staff groups or student organizations.
- Markets Indigenous training programs to the wider Queen’s community.
- Identifies, researches, designs, and develops training program material; ensures all training programs remain current and updated; identifies and recommends enhancements based on audience feedback and best practices for education in the field. Analyze, summarize, and make recommendations for improvements.
- Initiate and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups (i.e., Indigenous cultural community), promoting frequent communication and knowledge transfer between groups to increase support for training programs.
- Provides leadership to ensure service delivery of all programs and services are met.
- Consult, advise and lead training facilitators (staff and volunteers), providing work direction and technical/functional guidance.
- Schedule and assign work relating to training programs. Coordinate and monitor workflow.
- Designs and administers evaluation tools to gauge usefulness and benefit of all Indigenous Trainings.
- Makes necessary adjustments to the training programs based on participant feedback, as required.
- Identifies and develops methods, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiencies, and identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Oversees, maintains records of, and prepares qualitative and quantitative reports on training workshops delivered, and audience participation.
- Participates in screening and interviewing training facilitators and recommends selection.
- Provides orientation and on the job training to facilitators. Provides coaching and feedback on work quality issues, providing day-to-day supervision. Escalates unresolved performance and/or disciplinary matters to Associate Director.
- Participate in staffing committees and makes recommendations regarding employee selection.
- Works with the Associate Director to ensure that financial and accounting duties related to training budget are fulfilled; assist with budget planning, financial reporting, and ensure that expenditures are appropriate.
- Assesses training and development needs to facilitators, staff and volunteers.
- Undertakes other duties as assigned in support of the department/unit.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Must demonstrate strong ties to an Indigenous community.
- Extensive experience in collaborating with Indigenous students, organizations and communities preferred. University degree in related area, preferably an educational field, combined with 5+ years of related work experience preferred.
- Previous experience in designing, developing, and delivering training workshops and programs.
- Knowledge of current literature and effective approaches for teaching and training to develop cultural competency.
- Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

**SPECIAL SKILLS**:

- Excellent understanding and comfort level working with Indigenous students, communities, and organizations.
- Sound knowledge of human rights, diversity, and equity issues facing Indigenous peoples.
