**The opportunity**:
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba is looking for a Research & Access Archivist. This position will be assisting with access to archives, coordinating licensing agreements for archival materials, interacting with Residential School Survivors and Intergenerational Survivors, and assisting in the preparation of exhibits of archival matter.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER OR RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATIONS, MÉTIS, AND/OR INUIT).
- Bachelors degree is required.
- Additional education in a related field, including administrative, access and privacy, or records management programs is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of experience working within an office environment is required.
- Experience in dealing effectively and diplomatically with senior members of an organization and the public is required.
- Experience in working with a university or other educational institution is preferred.
- Experience in working with Residential School Survivors is preferred.
- Previous experience with access to information and protection of privacy legislation, and particularly with knowledge of the NCTR Act, is preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to foster harmonious working relationships with other staff, both academic and support is required.
- Knowledge of the Indigenous history of Canada is required.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills are required.
- Excellent organizational skills and time-management skills are required.
- Document management skills are required.
- Ability to think analytically, anticipate and resolve problems, exercise sound judgment and carry out duties with tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment is required.
- Ability to work independently and undertake work as directed is required.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize diverse tasks with attention to detail is required.
- Must be self-motivated and proficient in multi-tasking to meet competing deadlines.
- Ability to keep sensitive matters confidential is required.
- Ability to help the office stay current and adopt effective new technologies is required.
- Familiarity with the University of Manitoba is preferred.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
