The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. It is the first national museum in Canada to be built outside the National Capital Region. **About the role**

Reporting to the Manager, Research and Head of Knowledge Translation, the Researcher is responsible for conducting research for Museum exhibits and programs, and for other divisional work and projects, as required. This position will assist the Research and Development department in meeting its objectives, including making information available to internal parties (e.g. for Museum content development, publications, etc.), and other third parties as required. In the spirit of mobilizing research so that it is the most useful and actionable, there will be times when the Researcher will also provide some coordination support to the department (e.g., assisting in overseeing relationships with third-party contractors, interviewees, etc.).

The incumbent will be a strong and thoughtful communicator, critical thinker and innovator, and will bring a collaborative approach to their role.

**What you will do**
- Contributes to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models anti-racist and accountable behaviours.
- Under the supervision of their Manager and Museum Curators, they will:

- Gather data and information, and administer requests for information to and from other organizations, including producing summaries and reports on human rights-related matters.
- Assist with requests to locate information and/or artifacts, using various methods and sources such as collections documentation, photographic holdings, and private and public archives.
- Provide support to their Manager and Museum Curators in the preparation of research for specific exhibits, programs and projects. This may include organizing printed or digital materials.
- Assist with the Museum’s Oral History Program, including through the conduct and transcription, where appropriate and possible, of oral histories, and the review of related transcripts and translations.
- In coordination with the Digital Asset Manager, assist with identifying and complying with copyright restrictions and/or other restrictions on access to and use of information.
- Provide background information on best practices of human rights research as well as museological practices.
- Assist with design, management and data input for research databases for specific exhibits, programs or projects.
- Provide administrative support and assist with the coordination of the work of contractors (e.g. contract researchers, editors).
- Build the information resources of the Museum, including web-based projects.
- Other duties as assigned.

**What we’re looking for**
- Substantial research or curatorial experience in a university, museum, library or cultural institution is required; at least four (4) years is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various research methods; ability to search consistently for new information and developments in related fields.
- Skill in conducting online research, as well as primary source research, including but not limited to databases, interviews, digital and physical archives, and cataloguing systems.
- Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion and dignity for all.
- Strong organization skills with high attention to detail.
