Position Information

**Position Title**
- Indigenous Student Success Coordinator**Position Summary**
- We are currently seeking a permanent full-time Indigenous Student Success Coordinator to join our Indigenous Initiatives team.
- The Indigenous Student Success Coordinator provides front line support and service for First Nation, Metis, Non-Status, and Inuit students. The Indigenous Student Success Coordinator communicates with internal and external service providers and stakeholders to link students to the services and supports that they require to be successful, and to assist them with making informed decisions concerning their educational goals. This position is a resource, advisor, and link for services on and off campus in relation to the specific needs of Indigenous students within RDP and the Indigenous community at large. The incumbent maintains specific knowledge in First Nation, Metis and Inuit funding models, cultural norms and the TRC 94 Calls to Action. This position contributes to planning and implementing various workshops and events on and off campus.**Position Responsibilities**

**Support and Navigation**
- Develops online and printed resources for Indigenous students to assist them with navigating both internal and external support/community services and addresses frequently asked questions.
- Communicates with First Nations, Metis, Non-Status and Inuit funding agencies.
- Collaborates with specialized services on campus to develop general knowledge of admission criteria, transfer requirements, program completion, funding, housing, and other resources (Student Connect Centre, Library, Accessibility Services, Counseling Centre, Academic Supports).

**Advising on Metis and First Nations Membership**
- Liaises with appropriate communities and agencies to assist Indigenous students access membership and status.
- Connects students with communities to provide proof of ancestry such as a Metis card or Certificate of Indian Status card.
- Advises students on engaging with FNMI communities.

**Workshops, Events and Program Delivery for Indigenous Students**
- Develops, coordinates, promotes, and implements workshops, events, and programs to support Indigenous student success within the post-secondary environment, and to support their academic success, holistic wellbeing, and promote a sense of belonging.
- Schedules, plans and delivers events and activities, in collaboration with the Director.
- Assists the Director, Indigenous Initiatives with collaborative RDP post-secondary initiatives in First Nations, Non-Status, Metis and Inuit communities.
- Collaborates and consults with students, faculty, the Students’ Association, other polytechnic committees, other institution event planning staff, and community groups and organizations as appropriate, for the implementation of workshops, events, and programs.
- Ensures workshops, events, and programs are administered within applicable guidelines, policies, and budgets in consultation with the Director, Indigenous Initiatives.
- Attends and participates in RDP student events such as New Student Orientation, Student Welcome, Open House, Recruitment, and other events as required.

**Indigenous Student Recruitment Initiatives**
- Attends recruitment events in the central Alberta community and within First Nation communities that fall within region as needed.
- Develops relationships with local school districts including Indigenous Services and Student Support teams and staff, and community organizations to identify opportunities for Indigenous student recruitment and relationship building.
- Collaborates with the Student Connect Centre to develop an Indigenous Recruitment Strategy.
- Aligns with performance-based funding for domestic students.

**Required Qualifications**
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent in Native Studies, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, or Business Administration, representing four years of study or equivalent.
- Over 1 year of relevant experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Indigenous heritage, language and understanding of the social structure and cultural norms that influence the successful transition of an Indigenous student into the post-secondary environment.
- Working knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, Treaties, and UNDRIP.
- Effective listening skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to build relationships with colleagues, students, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated respect for diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrated student-centered approach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio.
- Experience generating and analyzing reports.
