**Title**: Special Event Assistant

**Status**: Summer Student

**Overview**:
The project Special Event Assistant will provide an opportunity for a summer student in Central Alberta to assist in developing a schedule and plan for various cultural special events.

**Responsibilities**:
The Summer Student - Special Events Assistant will be responsible for learning to:

- Build relationships with partnering organizations.
- Develop required documents i.e. questionnaire/ request for contact information, relating to events including music/musicians, sound operations, venues/necessary permits
- Engaging in meetings and communication between Shining Mountains and the MNA Metis Local #492 and other relevant organizations
- Create a template for a special events manual.

**Special Events Assistant position is designated for a qualified student who identifies as Indigenous, with preference given to a Métis student.**

**Qualifications**
- experience in or knowledge of Red Deer urban Indigenous communities
- Competency with computer,
- Knowledge/competency with Indigenous Cultures
- Suitable for High School or 1st year college student

**Skills**
- Excellent writing skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Self-directed with an ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Knowledge of the Indigenous organizations in Central Alberta helpful
- Good problem-solving skills
- Ability to speak Michif and/or another Indigenous language of the Alberta First Nations is an asset but not required

**Abilities**
- Excellent relationship building and conflict resolution skills with an ability to interact and work effectively with community, and service organizations.
- Ability to work as a team and independently.
- Demonstrate an ability to learn and be self-directed

**Working Conditions**

The Summer Student will work in an office environment in Red Deer.

Hours: 35 hours per week

Renumeration: $15.00/hour
