The Industry Competitiveness and Policy Unit in Jobs, Economy and Trade is looking for a Policy Analyst to join the team. The Policy Analyst will provide research, analysis and policy development support for strategies and projects that further economic competitiveness priorities.

The role will require a strong ability to scope and perform jurisdictional, economic, and statistical research and analysis; provide strategic policy advice related to the industrial economy; and more broadly identify opportunities to stimulate economic growth, diversification and resiliency, by enhancing opportunities for Alberta's industries.

The role will require strong interpersonal skills to i coordinate with contacts within the department, across Ministries, and with key stakeholders for the purpose of developing policy responses on relevant issues.

Working closely with team members including the Managers and Directors in the branch, the Policy Analyst will prepare strategic internal and external reports, briefings, and communications. This requires extensive problem solving, systems thinking, decision-making, relationship development, and writing skills. The incumbent's technical, research, and communication skills are essential to help the Unit, Branch, and Department achieve the goals to create a competitive environment that attracts investment and job creation opportunities.

**Requirements**:
University graduation in Economics, Public Administration, Political Science or a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing and providing options analysis, reports, briefings, and presentations on complex issues.
- Well-developed research, analytical, and problem solving skills to interpret key economic and industry information (quantitative and qualitative).
- Experience collaborating with diverse, cross-functional teams and ability to develop relationships with multiple stakeholders.
- Knowledge of strategy or policy development processes and practices.
- Knowledge of Alberta's economy, its place in the Canadian, North American and global economies, and the economies of other provinces.
- Understanding of key issues that face Alberta's industries and their supply chains, and factors that drive economic development and industry competitiveness in Alberta.
- Understanding of economic development concepts and matters.
- Project management and time management skills in a policy or strategic planning setting.
