Administrative Assistant, Policy and Development

Temporary Part-Time, 21 hours per week (3 Month Contract)
The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for an Administrative Assistant to assist the Planning team on a 3 month contract, with the possibility of extension. This position will work approximately 21 hours per week.

Under the direction of the Director, Planning and Building, this position will primarily perform the tasks associated with providing efficient and effective clerical and basic technical support to the Policy and Development Planning Branch’s of the Planning and Building Department. This position also carries out the duties of the Secretary Treasurer of the Committee of Adjustment.
**How you contribute to our organization**:
- Provides support to the Director and planning staff to ensure a high level of inter-personal and office organization and efficiency.
- Acts as the initial contact for the two Branch’s on telephone and counter inquiries. Ensures all correspondence and visitors are acted upon and/or redirected to appropriate staff, ensuring a timely response. Fields initial calls and provides general information, connects to planning staff when applicable or takes messages.
**What you bring to the team**:
- College level certificate in Business Office Administration or related field required.
- A diploma in Business Administration or related field is an asset.
- OACA Primer on Planning Course or other introductory planning program is an asset.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a similar administrative position preferably in a municipal planning environment to be cognizant of the flow of work as well as planning processes.
- Word processing, spreadsheet and database computer skills required; familiarity with Geographic Information Systems and zoning by-laws in general would be an asset.
- Excellent organizational and customer service skills with an ability to efficiently and effectively organize an office and provide administrative support to a team with multiple projects and conflicting deadlines.
- Working knowledge of applicable Provincial legislation including the Planning Act and Municipal Act.
**Salary**: $30.28 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay and optional enrolment in OMERS pension plan
**Hours**: 21 hours per week. Business hours are between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday
**Location**: Town Administration Centre
