We are looking for a Technical Officer in Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) to support the Non-Destructive Evaluation Team within the Aerospace Research Centre. The Technical Officer in Non-destructive Evaluation would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Non Destructive Evaluation team has specialized evaluation technologies that inspect for abnormalities including manufacturing defects and in-service damage in a wide variety of materials, including metals, carbon fibre composite laminates, fibre metal laminates and honeycomb or foam core structures, as well as coatings, welding, conventional and additive manufacturing, and adhesive bonding. It performs strategic research in non destructive evaluation, and supports fee for service inspection work using techniques that include visual, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonics, eddy current, radiography, infrared thermography, laser shearography, and other electromagnetic methods.

The Technical Officer, NDE develops and performs customized non-destructive inspection in support of aerospace R&D projects. Moreover, you maintain and expend the non-destructive evaluation facilities and capabilities to address current and future needs.
In addition, you work with the NDE team to maintain the facility, perform equipment verification, maintain the quality records, and all NDE documents related to the Aerospace Research Centre quality system.

The NRC Aerospace Research Centre focuses on advancing aerospace research and technology developments in the core areas of aerodynamics, flight research, gas turbines, structures and materials, and manufacturing. We conduct research and technology development (R&TD) across the full spectrum of issues related to the design, manufacture, qualification, performance, use and maintenance of air vehicles. This work covers all of the major concerns in aerospace - cost, weight, safety, human factors and environmental footprint.

**Education**:
College Diploma in Physics or Aerospace or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

A combination of relevant education and experience might be considered.

**Experience**:

- Significant experience with Level II certification based on the CGSB in three (3) of the main non-destructive testing (NDT) methods: Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Eddy Current Testing (ET) and X-Radiographic Testing (RT);
- Significant experience in developing inspection techniques and procedures.

**Assets**:

- Significant experience with Level II certification based on the CGSB in all 5 main NDT methods listed above;
- Experience in the use of automated inspections system and advanced signal processing and image enhancement methods such as automated ultrasonic C-scan, x-radiography system, automated eddy current scanner, laser shearography, pulsed thermography, phased array ultrasonic;
- Experience in performing NDE during full-scale testing;
- Experience in airframe metal working and structural repair; and
- Experience in defining, planning and/or managing projects.

**Condition of Employment**:
Secret (II). A Secret clearance must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

**Compensation**:
From $73,744 to $94,839 per annum.
