Medical Laboratory Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to work in a dynamic laboratory environment, performing various functions related to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing.

About the Job

The Medical Laboratory Assistant will work under the direction of Management, supporting all members of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine by performing tasks such as specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

  • Positive patient identification and accurate specimen handling are essential to the job.
  • Duties may vary based on the operational requirements of the laboratory site.
  • The MLA may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays, and interact with various stakeholders and clients.

About You

  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.
  • Ability to accurately number/label specimens and file slides/requisitions.
  • Ability to adapt to updates/changes in operating procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, Meditech experience is preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation as travel may be required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Hours and Compensation

  • Long Assignment, Full Time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly.
  • Hourly rate: $26.27.
