Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Position

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to join our team at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. As a MLA, you will play a vital role in supporting the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) department by performing various functions related to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing.

About the Role

  • Perform specimen procurement, receipt, and processing, as well as data entry and media preparation.
  • Support laboratory operations by performing clerical duties, loading specimens on analyzers, and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with various stakeholders, including patients, healthcare professionals, and laboratory staff.
  • Work collaboratively with the laboratory team to ensure accurate and efficient testing processes.

About You

  • You have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and are registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • You possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as basic computer skills and experience with Meditech.
  • You have a strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to perform procedures with a high degree of accuracy.
  • You are able to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures, and have a basic understanding of medical terminology.
