Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Job Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is a leading provider of health services in Nova Scotia, with a mission to achieve excellence in health, healing, and learning. We're seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.

About the Role

  • Under the direction of Management, the MLA will work in collaboration with and support all members of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine by performing various functions relating to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing.
  • Responsibilities will include specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, sterilization, clerical duties, and loading specimens on an analyzer.
  • The MLA will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays, and may be required to interact with various stakeholders and clients.
  • Incumbents must adhere to all applicable NSH/PLM policies and procedures, and demonstrate excellent customer service.

About You

  • You will have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and have successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and strong attention to detail.
  • You will be able to perform procedures with a high degree of accuracy, and have manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.
  • You will have basic computer skills, and experience with Meditech is preferred.
  • You will have access to reliable transportation, and competencies in other languages are an asset.
