Medical Laboratory Assistant Needed for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Team

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join its Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with laboratory staff to perform various functions related to specimen procurement, data entry, and customer service.

**Job Responsibilities:**

• Perform specimen procurement, receipt, and processing
• Enter data into laboratory information systems
• Prepare media, reagents, and smears
• Sterilize equipment and supplies
• Provide customer service to laboratory staff and clients
• Work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required
• Interact with various stakeholders and clients

**Requirements:**

• Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
• Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Basic understanding of medical terminology
• Strong attention to detail
• Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects
• Ability to accurately number and label specimens and file slides and requisitions
• Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures
• Basic computer skills, Meditech experience preferred
• Access to reliable transportation as travel may be required
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

**Working Conditions:**

• Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment
• Interact with laboratory staff, clients, and other stakeholders
• May be required to work in a variety of settings, including long-term care facilities and private homes

**Compensation and Benefits:**

• $26.27 hourly
• Eligible for benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage
• Defined benefit pension plan
