About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for performing various functions related to the laboratory, including specimen handling, data entry, and customer service.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who has a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and has successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and has current registration with CSMLS. You will also have strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will be working in a fast-paced laboratory environment, and will be required to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures. You will also have access to reliable transportation, as travel may be required. Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.

Hours

This is a permanent, part-time position with 45 hours bi-weekly. You will be working in a dynamic and supportive team environment, and will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in a rapidly evolving field.

Compensation and Incentives

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $26.27 and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and life insurance coverage. Successful candidates may also be eligible for our defined benefit pension plan.
