We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, ensuring accurate and efficient specimen handling and processing.
Under the direction of Management, you will work collaboratively with laboratory staff to perform various functions, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and clerical duties. You will also be responsible for loading specimens on an analyzer, troubleshooting, and providing excellent customer service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing specimen procurement, receipt, and processing
- Entering data accurately and efficiently
- Preparing media and reagents
- Loading specimens on an analyzer
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues
- Providing excellent customer service
Requirements:
- Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
- Successful completion of the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and current registration with CSMLS
- Willingness to travel to local indigenous communities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Strong attention to detail
- Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects
- Ability to accurately number and label specimens and file slides and requisitions
- Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures
- Basic computer skills, Meditech experience preferred
- Access to reliable transportation
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
We offer a competitive hourly rate of $26.27 and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
