About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory operations and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform various functions related to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and sterilization.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with various stakeholders, including patients, healthcare professionals, and laboratory staff.
  • Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure efficient and effective laboratory operations.
  • Adhere to all applicable policies and procedures, including safety and infection prevention and control protocols.

Requirements:

  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent.
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to accurately number and label specimens and file slides and requisitions.
  • Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, with experience in Meditech preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation, as travel may be required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, with French preferred.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent full-time position, with 75 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $26.27. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
