Job Title: Unit Assistant - Radiation Therapy Department

About the Role:

As a Unit Assistant in our Radiation Therapy Department, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, performing a variety of tasks and acting as a communication link for the department. Your duties will include:

  • Unit assistant duties: supporting patients and staff, intra & inter-facility patient transport, stocking unit supplies, linen maintenance, and maintaining the cleanliness of waiting rooms, stretcher bays, and service rooms.
  • Clerical tasks: appointment scheduling, contacting patients for radiation appointments, answering telephones and inquiries, and checking patients into the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interacting with patients, general public, health professionals, and other hospital personnel.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality according to CCMB policy and PHIA.
  • Working under the supervision of the Clinical Resource Radiation Therapist.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from a recognized Health Unit Clerk course and a Health Care Aide course.
  • Successful completion of English 40S level or equivalent.
  • The ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including transferring and transporting patients.
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient with MS Word/Excel/Outlook and internet use.
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Unit Assistant and as a Unit Clerk, including transporting patients.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a patient-care setting.
  • Working experience with ARIA RO.
  • Ability to speak French.
