Are you a tax professional passionate about navigating complex international payroll tax matters and ensuring compliance across diverse jurisdictions? A leader in global industries is seeking a skilled Global Mobility Tax Specialist for a 6-month contract to perm to support their payroll and HR team in Vancouver. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of global mobility and tax compliance within an international organization.
Reporting to the Leader of Domestic & Expatriate Payrolls, the Global Mobility Tax Specialist will take on cross-border tax responsibilities across Canada, the U.S., and various international regions. You’ll play a vital role in researching tax implications, preparing essential payroll tax documents, and supporting a team dedicated to compliance and efficiency. This is an ideal position for an experienced tax professional seeking a contract role with flexibility, collaboration, and impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Documentation & Compliance: Prepare Canadian and U.S. payroll-related tax forms, including certificates of coverage, tax number applications, and waiver forms (TD4, Regulation 102, T1213).
- Shadow Payroll & Equity Calculations: Conduct monthly shadow payroll tax calculations and equity sourcing, covering PSU, RSU, RPU, DSU, and stock options.
- Global Tax Research & Implementation: Research and implement payroll requirements for new jurisdictions to support expatriate payroll compliance.
- CRA and IRS Correspondence: Manage communications with tax authorities, responding to audits, notices, and other requests.
- Account Reconciliation: Lead payroll account reconciliations pre- and post-year-end, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing: Work closely with HR, accounting teams, and external advisors, focusing on cross-training and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Audit Support & Compliance: Assist in both internal and external audits, including SOX compliance, to uphold high standards.
- Special Projects: Engage in ad hoc projects and initiatives aligned with company goals.
What We’re Looking For
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in finance, tax accounting, or business. A minimum of five years in global mobility tax compliance, ideally with public accounting firm experience.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Excel skills for report generation and data analysis; strong familiarity with global mobility and payroll management.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: A collaborative, knowledge-sharing mindset with experience in matrixed, fast-paced environments.
- Attention to Detail: Proven accuracy in processing complex tax scenarios across multiple jurisdictions.
- Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Strong analytical skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal skills for engaging with internal teams and external partners.
