The Assistant Dean, Student Development and Transitions (ADDT) reports to the Associate Dean, Student Success. The ADDT creates, provides, and assesses programs and resources tailored for students' progressive needs through university.

The ADDT provides time-specific supports and programs customized to pivotal times of student development and transition into, through and out of the university.

The ADDT provides individual advising, resources and broad programs for student development, while also managing individual student cases to ensure smooth navigation through their time at university.

The incumbent is also part of the Victoria University student support team, collaborating with colleagues and referring students as needed to other offices in the university, and also to community resources when appropriate.

The ADDT has direct supervision of the Campus Life Coordinator, oversees incoming student programming, and supports VUSAC.

The ADDT works collaboratively with staff in the Office of the Dean of Students to support all campus life activities.

The ADDT will also support the needs of students considering post-university options, both upon arrival (when students are typically just beginning to frame their journey) and through to their upper years of study (when planning for next steps is generally underway).

This will include, but not be limited to, organizing and executing all of the educational events associated with Vic Ready, under the supervision of the Associate Dean.

The ADDT is required to participate in an on-call rotation, as call-up supervisor to the regular rotation of live-in on-call staff.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience

At least five (5) years experience including supervisory experience in Student Life or advising services at the post secondary level; strong experiential background in student life and advising; experience working with diverse communities and an understanding of student issues as they relate to students in various stages of development.

This work is highly creative; it requires self-reliance and initiative.

This position is consultative across the wide range of student groups and student services at Victoria University, and works cooperatively with offices in the University of Toronto.

The ADDT will display great sensitivity to student issues and concerns, especially as they relate to a diverse group of students, and their wellness and success in navigation through the stages of university.

Must possess the ability to relate to individual students and student organizations in a manner that builds trust and confidence and be able to demonstrate the ability to implement programs.

Must have excellent organizational, written and oral communication and presentation skills. Must be comfortable working independently and in a team environment. Must have the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Must have the ability to recognize at risk students and respond and refer appropriately. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong web based communication and maintenance skills, including working knowledge of publishing software an asset.
