The General Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures throughout the organization's accounting cycle. This includes analyzing financial information, preparing accurate, timely financial reports and statements, and ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures.This position is also required to be proactive and to apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help support the accounting process.
Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.ensuring balances throughout all Hillman Canada accounts.
This includes accruals, payouts, special reporting, and reconciliations.
Work closely with payroll department on accounting for payroll, severances etc.
Responsible for fixed assets at all company facilities: accounting, reconciliation, acquisition approvals, annual confirmations.
Performs accurate and timely analyses and accruals. Requests details or corrective actions from Purchasing, Inventory Control, CSRs.
Oversee key accounts:
bank, rebates, payroll and intercompany/division accounts.
Designs and generates a variety of financial reports in JDE, BI Cubes, MS Access.
Performs accurate, timely reconciliations and supporting schedules.
Participates in internal and external audits; Participates in documentation and testing of controls in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Calculates and submits provincial sales tax returns.Comply with company policies and procedures.
Employees are expected and encouraged to participate in safety and health program activities including immediately reporting hazards, immediately reporting unsafe work practices and incidents to supervisors, wearing required personal protective equipment, and participating in and supporting safety committee activities.
Professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, or CPA, CGA) or near completion.~5-7 years+ general accounting and analysis experience in a Manufacturing / Distribution environment.
Experience with JDE Oracle or similar ERP Software an asset.
High Proficiency in Excel (Power Pivot, Pivot Tables etc.) Attention to details in big data pools.
