About the Position

In this pivotal role, you will report directly to the AVP of Accounting and Controls within Canadian Finance. You will be responsible for overseeing a team of four finance professionals and managing the reporting function for Canadian Finance. Your key responsibilities will include spearheading the quarterly consolidated financial reporting for the organization. This position is crucial in supporting senior management in decision-making processes and ensuring comprehensive internal and external financial reporting, analysis, and forecasting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of consolidated financial reporting, analysis, and forecasting.
  • Oversee the quarterly consolidated financial reporting process, including the coordination of the ledger close.
  • Provide direct support for the quarterly attestation by senior management, ensuring all financial data is accurate and well-governed.
  • Manage the governance of accounting and ledger controls, executing monitoring controls to maintain a robust control environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with various functional areas to support the successful execution of strategic initiatives and process enhancements.
  • Focus on talent development by fostering an engaging and supportive workplace culture.

Qualifications:

  • 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in a large, preferably public institution, with a focus on reporting, audits, regulatory compliance, and internal controls.
  • Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CA designation, with experience in a major accounting firm preferred.
  • Ability to quickly understand the operations and financials of the Canadian Business Group, including its control environment.
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and reporting skills, with a solid grasp of IFRS and SOX controls relevant to the insurance sector.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong listening abilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of building relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to mentor and provide constructive feedback for professional development.
  • High level of personal integrity, credibility, and professionalism.
  • Prior experience in life insurance accounting is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with high-level actuarial processes.
  • Experience with financial software packages such as SAP and Hyperion is a plus.
