Role Specifics


We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Payroll Compliance Specialist holding the Canadian Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation to ensure our payroll operations align with all Canadian laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of payroll legislation and a proven track record of ensuring accurate and compliant payroll practices. This is an exciting opportunity to build and shape our payroll compliance practices and procedures from the ground up.


Payroll Responsibilities


  • Compliance Oversight: Monitor and interpret changes in Canadian payroll legislation, regulations, and taxation rules. Ensure that all payroll processes adhere to these standards.
  • Audit and Reconciliation: Conduct regular internal audits of payroll records, systems, and procedures. Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Policy Development: Develop and maintain comprehensive payroll policies and procedures that comply with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess potential payroll compliance risks. Implement controls and procedures to mitigate these risks.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate and timely payroll reports to relevant government agencies (CRA, Revenue Québec, etc.).
  • System Optimization: Evaluate and recommend improvements to payroll systems and software to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Training and Education: Provide guidance and training to payroll staff on compliance matters. Stay updated on industry trends and share knowledge with the team.
  • Issue Resolution: Address and resolve complex payroll compliance issues, such as employee complaints, audits, or legal inquiries.


Qualifications


  • PCP Designation: Must hold a valid Canadian Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation from the Canadian Payroll Association.
  • Payroll Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Canadian payroll, preferably with a focus on compliance.
  • Legal Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Canadian employment standards, tax laws, and payroll legislation.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve compliance issues.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in payroll calculations and reporting.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate complex compliance matters.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, Payworks) and Microsoft Excel.


Nice to Have


  • Experience with other accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
  • Bilingual (English/French) language skills.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
