The Social Media Communications Specialist is an important part of the Public Affairs & Media Relations Unit. The position is responsible for providing social media communications counsel to various positions within the Calgary Police Service (CPS) on initiatives and issues relating to the operations and reputation management of the Service. Primary duties include:

Develop, manage and implement social communications and marketing support for the CPS. Support representation of the CPS corporate values and ethics internally & with external partners. Research and implement strategies as well as plans and tactics to support programs, initiatives and services. Continually monitor and handle customer relations through the CPS social media accounts to ensure a consistent voice meets the Service's objectives. Maintain brand consistency and corporate image. Evaluate and measure the CPS social media performance metrics, compile reports, and maintain detailed records to track engagement. Ensure communications strategy meets the Service's needs. Act as an online spokesperson for the Service through the main branded accounts and ensure a consistent voice that meets the CPS objectives. Advise on social communications issues pertaining to the Service. Stay current with latest social media trends, best practices and identify future needs for change within the CPS's communications strategies and proactively work to address those needs. Working Conditions: You could have regular exposure to graphic content and may encounter aggressive and negative behaviour while performing online social media duties. The position may require working outside of standard business hours in response to an incident or issue.
Qualifications  A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business or a related field and a minimum of 1 year experience in social media strategy, strategic communications and issues/crisis management. Previous experience working in a law enforcement environment is considered an asset. Designations such as Accredited Business Communicator (ABC), Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), Communications & Advertising Accredited Professional (CAAP) or Communications & Advertising Accredited Professional (CCPP) are also considered assets. Success in this position requires efficiency and thoroughness, impact and influence, service orientation and planning and prioritizing/visionary. The ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive deadlines.
