The Indigenous Community Mobilizer serves as an ambassador within the community. They will promote two-way engagement and planning to support improved police service designs to Indigenous, underrepresented, and visible minority communities. This position will work with Indigenous communities in the Calgary area at grassroots level to help foster and build trust and relationships as well as access to services through breaking down barriers and inaccurate perceptions of policing services. Primary duties include:

- Build on existing partnerships (related to Indigenous peoples, agencies and Nations).
Plan, implement and monitor community engagement sessions on equitable public safety
Public Safety and diversity promotion and awareness through training, education, facilitation of workshops, and participation in community events.
Serve as community liaison with District commanders to determine priorities and scheduling and implementation of activities.
Assist in developing appropriate communication tools in conjunction with the Indigenous Relations Team, Diversity Resource Team, CPS Advisory Boards/Circle, Anti-Racism Action Committee, District Commanders and Community Resource Officers (CROs).
Looks for ways to promote open and honest discussion between police and Community members, CPS Advisory Boards/Circle, Anti-Racism Action Committee, District Commanders, and Community Resource Officers (CROs).
Develop Action Plans and monitor progress toward achieving program goals and milestones on a quarterly basis; adjust direction if goals are not being met.
Provide oversight of project activities including work plans, activity schedules, and communications and project reports to both internal and external stakeholder
- **Qualifications**
***A completed 2 year diploma in Social Science, Social Work, or a related field and 2 years directly related experience working with Indigenous people and communities. A related degree will be considered an asset.
Lived experience as a member of an underrepresented community is required.
A strong knowledge of, or experience working with, removing barriers and supporting equity-deserving groups, including experience working with persons.
Must have verifiable membership of a First Nation.
Must have knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, paradigms, natural laws, and impacts on Indigenous ways of being and knowing.
Must have knowledge of Indigenous histories, languages, cultures, traditions, values, traditional territories, Truth and Reconciliation, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Sprit People (MMIWG2S) and contexts specific to Indigenous people in the Calgary and Treaty 7 area.
Experience of supporting a collaboration to meet a goal or respond to an issue is considered an asset.
Experience working with law enforcement or public safety is an asset.
Success in this position requires strong communication and customer service skills and the ability to build relationships that contribute to achieving project goals. Successful applicants will be able to remain calm in stressful situations while focusing on results and using time and resources effectively.

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $37.79 - 50.55 per hour
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
