Overview of Role

The Volunteer Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with designates from Silvera's Supportive Living Communities to support the execution of a short-term strategy to re-introduce volunteer engagement and programming. This position will be a combination of support and mentorship as well as the tactical development of a volunteer engagement plan that can be implemented moving forward.

In preparation for the re-introduction of volunteers, the following foundational pieces have been updated as a place to start:

  • Standards of Practice Framework document based on the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement
  • Volunteer Handbook
  • Content on website
  • Letter to all prospective volunteers registering on MyImpact
  • Volunteer Orientation
  • Silvera volunteer policies reviewed (Employees who leave Silvera and want to return as volunteers is still pending with HR)

Deliverables:

  • Review and provide input on all documentation updated to date. Identify missing pieces and include in planning process. 
  • Develop a short-term volunteer engagement strategy (November – May) as well as a long-term tactical plan based on learnings and current realities.
  • Learn MyImpact and determine a monthly & quarterly reporting schedule that will be submitted to Senior Manager, Community Operations.
  • Review the volunteer page on the Silvera website and intentionally build the page in alignment with the overall plan.
  • Work with the External Relations Team – specifically the Manager, Brand & Communications to regularly share volunteer impact stories on social media, in Silvera publications and on MySilvera.

    Work with each SL Community to introduce and discuss the opportunities outlined in the Standards of Practice Framework. Collaborate with them to customize their volunteer engagement processes as well as:
  • Develop volunteer position descriptions for each SL Community – build a format that is consistently used throughout the organization that measures and manages the risks associated with each position.
  • Determine what volunteers are needed and when based on the capacity of each SL Community.
  • Customize volunteer orientation for each SL Community.
  • Ensure updated Silvera Volunteer Orientation PPT deck is suitable and record on Teams (to be shared with all new volunteers prior to their orientation at individual communities) and upload into MySilvera.
  • Develop a Silvera wide recruitment strategy. Part of this strategy will be connecting it to the Neighbourhood Stakeholder Engagement Strategy.
  • Collaborate with all internal stakeholders to develop a Silvera Volunteer Recognition Program including a Volunteer Week Recognition plan. (Most likely a campaign during the month of April with social media and blog posts.)
  • Build the volunteer satisfaction/evaluation process.
