Essential Functions and Responsibilities may include:
Work as part of the School Team and Learning Services Central Team, to guide students in developing and independently accessing strategies of self-regulation; and supporting their personal, social and emotional development; thereby, creating the conditions for the student to engage in accessing the skills required for academic readiness; Support school staff in the development and modelling of positive behaviour supports, self-regulation and collaborative problem solving, in an effort to have students achieve positive outcomes at school; Work collaboratively with the school team, including teachers and students to implement a plan of action, goals and strategies for success to meet the unique needs of students requiring support through the Cornerstones program; Collect data for the purpose of collaboratively developing intervention plans and/or setting and monitoring specific student goals to address lagging skills; Provide and participate in on-going communication with classroom teachers and administration as well as parents/guardians in consultation with the school principal; Participate in training sessions relevant to supporting students with challenging behaviours and self-regulations needs; Interact with students throughout the school day to support positive behaviour strategies and use de-escalation strategies to minimize or eliminate disruptive behaviour; Attend team meetings, case conferences and other meetings related to students. Other related duties as assigned by the school principal and the Superintendent of Learning Services of designate.
Job Specifications and Requirements:
A Child and Youth Worker college diploma; Certification and proven successful experience in behaviour intervention strategies and technique; Training and/or professional development in trauma-informed approaches to understanding behaviour, and experience in developing trauma-informed support plans; Current BMS training, an understanding of Collaborative Proactive solutions and resiliency work; Certification (such as the Autism Intervener Course, RBT) and experience in using all elements of applied behaviour analysis with students would be an asset; Experience in treatment and clinical setting with children and youth would be beneficial; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work professionally as a member of the School Team; Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality; Proficient computer literacy skills; Walking, bending and physical containment as required, in accordance with BMS. Rate of Pay: Level 7 of ESSP Collective Agreement
Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week, 10 months per year
