The Avon Maitland District School Board is looking for a passionate educator to fill the role of Cornerstones Classroom Teacher at Central Perth Elementary School starting September 1, 2024. Located in southwestern Ontario, bordering Lake Huron, the board covers the counties of Huron and Perth. The region offers a mix of rural farmland, historic architecture, arts, and culinary experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform teacher duties as mandated by EDU regulations and district procedures
  • Deliver education programs following EDU and AMDSB policies
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to support student well-being and academic practices
  • Develop and implement students' Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Implement self-regulation strategies and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Collaborate with classroom staff and support team for successful student transitions
  • Report to the Host School Principal and participate in school team meetings
  • Ensure documentation is completed within the board system and adhere to protocols

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Special Education, Part One certification
  • Special Education Specialist qualification or willingness to obtain
  • Preferably Primary/Junior/Intermediate qualifications
  • Experience in supporting students with academic and behavioral challenges

Expected Competencies:

  • Familiarity with Circle of Security, Social Thinking, and Zones of Regulation
  • Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams
  • Background as a special education resource teacher or similar role
