About the Role

The Secretary to the Chair & Program Director supports both the Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and the Director of the Labour Studies Program. They play a critical role in supporting the responsibilities of the Chair and Director, particularly in the areas of faculty and instructor recruitment, tenure and promotion, and event logistics and administration.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, proactive and demonstrates an excellent ability to exercise mature judgement while communicating with tact and diplomacy. The ability to prioritize work while showing attention to detail is also instrumental to the success of this role.

Qualifications

High school graduation and one-year post-secondary education with courses or formal training in word processing, spreadsheet, database, web updating applications, office procedures and secretarial practices. 3 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize work. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to exercise mature judgement and initiative and communicate with tact and diplomacy. Ability to handle confidential/sensitive material with discretion.
