About the Role

The Secretary to the Chair & Program Director plays a critical role in supporting the responsibilities of the Chair and Director of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Labour Studies Program. Key responsibilities include faculty and instructor recruitment, tenure and promotion, and event logistics and administration.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, proactive, and demonstrate excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and exercise mature judgement while communicating with tact and diplomacy.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the Chair and Director in faculty and instructor recruitment, tenure and promotion, and event logistics and administration.
  2. Provide administrative support for the Department and Program, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, web updating applications, and office procedures.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, and students to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  4. Manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

Qualifications

  1. High school graduation and one-year post-secondary education with courses or formal training in word processing, spreadsheet, database, web updating applications, office procedures, and secretarial practices.
  2. 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study, and experience.
  3. Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and exercise mature judgement.
  4. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
