About the Opportunity

The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician works under the supervision of the Health Services Manager. The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician works in collaboration with the client, caregivers and family to facilitate, restore and/or maintain the patient/clients optimal level of function in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. Working closely with the Geriatricians, the Inpatient Geriatric Clinician provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation and follow-up while working within the hospital, the client's home and/or their community. The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician, in collaboration with the client, establishes individualized treatment plans and goals independently manage a busy caseload and use clinical judgement and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis.  Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required.  

 

The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician provides education and support to clients, families and caregivers. The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician functions as both a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community healthcare team. The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician contributes to the clinical education of students and related health disciplines and for supervision. The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician is responsible for adhering to Nova Scotia Health policies and procedures and to the professional standards of their licensing body.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
 

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy of Nova Scotia, is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience required
  • Recent Geriatric experience required
  • In depth knowledge and experience with the frail, elderly population.
  • Geriatric medication knowledge preferred and willingness to continue medication education.
  • Proficiency in cognition assessment preferred.
  • BLS-C
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other health care providers and staff.
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising.
  • Ability to use data in the evaluation and improvement of the Geriatric Navigator
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Hours
  • Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits

$33.96 - $42.89 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
