About the Opportunity

The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician plays a vital role in providing high-quality care to elderly patients in a hospital setting. Working under the supervision of the Health Services Manager, this clinician collaborates with clients, caregivers, and family members to facilitate, restore, and maintain optimal levels of function in areas such as self-care, productivity, and leisure.

As a key member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Inpatient Geriatric Clinician provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up services while working within the hospital, client's home, and/or community. This clinician establishes individualized treatment plans and goals, independently manages a busy caseload, and uses clinical judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis.

The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician provides education and support to clients, families, and caregivers, functioning as both a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community healthcare team. This clinician contributes to the clinical education of students and related health disciplines and for supervision, adhering to Nova Scotia Health policies and procedures and professional standards of their licensing body.

About You
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy of Nova Scotia, is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience is required, with recent Geriatric experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with the frail, elderly population are essential.
  • Geriatric medication knowledge is preferred, and a willingness to continue medication education is required.
  • Proficiency in cognition assessment is preferred.
  • BLS-C certification is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other healthcare providers, and staff, are essential.
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising, is essential.
  • Ability to use data in the evaluation and improvement of the Geriatric Navigator is required.
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French preferred.
Hours
  • Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly.
Compensation and Benefits

$42.89 Hourly.
