About the Opportunity

The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician plays a vital role in providing high-quality care to elderly patients. Working under the supervision of the Health Services Manager, this clinician collaborates with clients, caregivers, and family members to facilitate optimal function and independence. With expertise in geriatric care, this professional provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up services within the hospital, client's home, and community.

This role requires excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to establish individualized treatment plans and goals. The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician must be able to independently manage a busy caseload and use clinical judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis.

About You
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy of Nova Scotia, is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in geriatric care is required.
  • Recent experience working with the frail, elderly population is essential.
  • Geriatric medication knowledge and proficiency in cognition assessment are preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary for facilitating education programs and interacting positively with patients/clients, families, other healthcare providers, and staff.
  • A commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health is required.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising, is essential.
  • Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.
Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $42.89. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
