About the Opportunity

The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician plays a vital role in providing high-quality care to elderly patients. Working under the supervision of the Health Services Manager, this individual will collaborate with clients, caregivers, and family members to facilitate optimal function and independence.

Key responsibilities include providing consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up services while working within the hospital, client's home, and community. The Inpatient Geriatric Clinician will establish individualized treatment plans and goals, manage a busy caseload, and utilize clinical judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize issues daily.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are essential for this role, as the Inpatient Geriatric Clinician will provide education and support to clients, families, and caregivers. This individual will also function as a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community healthcare team.

About You
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy of Nova Scotia, is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience and recent Geriatric experience are required.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with the frail, elderly population are essential.
  • Geriatric medication knowledge is preferred, and a willingness to continue medication education is necessary.
  • Proficiency in cognition assessment is preferred.
  • BLS-C certification is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other healthcare providers, and staff, are essential.
  • A commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health is required.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising, is necessary.
  • The ability to use data in the evaluation and improvement of the Geriatric Navigator is required.
  • Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.
Hours and Compensation

This is a Permanent, Full-Time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $42.89.
