Out of Home Respite
Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of marginalized populations?
The field of human services provides meaningful work. What you do has a purpose, and you know it directly impacts and contributes to an individual's well-being while supporting the development of more inclusive communities which benefit everyone.
An Out-of-Home Respite provider is a support model in which a client is supported in the home of the Out-of-Home Respite Provider, and support can either be consistently scheduled or on an as needed basis. The contractor is not an employee and therefore does not receive the same benefits as CASS employees, such as vacation time, health benefits or employment insurance contributions. This form of support is considered tax free by the federal and provincial governments, and is not subject to CPP or EI contributions. However, the Out-of-Home Respite provider will receive a T5007 tax form each year and must still declare their income.
The Out-of-Home Respite position provides supports to an adult with a developmental disability living in their family home or in a Support Home (SHP). Out-of-Home Respite provider's support clients in their homes based on the following attributes - education, availability, suitability and level of expertise with specific support requirements - as well as, the safety and suitability of the physical home and area of the city.
The specific type of support that the Out-of-Home Respite provides to the client depends on the individual's support needs and the identified purpose of the respite required. Clients will identify their goals in their Individual Support Plan (ISP) meetings and the Out-of-Home Respite provider will assist them in achieving these goals. Support typically provides weekends or vacation breaks to the main care provider (family or SHP) and provides an alternate safe home to stay.
