Respite Staff/Live-In Support
Safe Haven Foundation is committed to helping Calgary's homeless and at-risk girls reclaim their futures. Through its Haven's Way program, a long-term live-in supportive housing model, the Foundation provides a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment where youth can build healthy relationships, overcome barriers, complete their education, and develop the skills needed to become self-reliant, contributing members of the community.
Respite Staff / Live-In Support report directly to the Program Director and play a key role in maintaining the consistency and structure of the Haven's Way home. They step in when full-time Live-In Support Workers take scheduled respite days, ensuring that the home continues to operate smoothly and ethically, always in the best interest of the youth. While Respite Staff may only be present a few days each month, their contribution is essential to sustaining the supportive environment and reinforcing the program's values and routines.
Duties while staying in the home include the following:
· Provide ongoing support to the youth in a safe environment
· Be familiar with the current case planning to support the youth in reaching their goals while in the program
· Keep in contact with the youth and know of their whereabouts at all times
· Be in the home when the youth are home
· Support youth crisis and ensure safety planning is in place and communicated with the Support Coach and Live-In supports when they return.
· Ensure chores are completed within the home
· Assist the youth in developing their communication and problem-solving skills
· Support youth in community appointments and meetings, including grocery shopping if needed
· Communicate with family and natural supports
· Be available to the youth and the Live-Ins the entire respite shift in case of emergency
· Ensure end of shift detailed notes are shared with the Live Ins when they return following their respite time away
· Other duties as required
Job Type: Casual on-call. Respite Staff must work 4 respite shifts a year, however, may take more shifts as they become available. A typical respite shift starts at 5pm on Friday and ends at 12pm on Sunday.
Position Qualifications· A post-secondary degree or diploma in the social sciences/human services field. Equivalent combination of education and experience and training will be considered. (Must be female as the role resides in the home with at-risk female youth.)
· Minimum 2 years direct work experience with youth population
· Current First Aid/CPR (must be kept current while employed)
· Reliable vehicle to get to and from work and for transporting the youth to outings as needed; must provide a driver's abstract and proof of $2,000,000 in insurance liability coverage
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt taking into the consideration of each unique youth
Safe Haven Foundation supports a diverse and inclusive work environment and welcomes applications from all qualified applicants. You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. We thank all applicants, however only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
