THE OPPORTUNITY – RESPITE PROVIDER
Location: North West, Calgary
This position requires candidates to provide respite in the candidate's home.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provide Respite housing support in your home, 1 weekend a month (2 x 24 hours /month) for a consumer with a disability with an emphasis on residential and community based activities
- Establish and build a professional relationship with client.
- Facilitate and support the client to recognize and develop safety skills including how to respond to emergency situations
- Develop good health practices which include assisting in all aspects of personal care, hygiene, bathing, and mobility support.
- Provide all meals and snacks during the respite period. Also assist with budget, banking and managing personal finances as required.
- Recognize and respond to health care needs which may require attendance at medical appointments or liaison with health care professionals
- Promote and participate in leisure activities, obtain and utilize transportation
- Develop and/or maintain a support (social) network and a personally rewarding and satisfying lifestyle
WHAT YOU BRING
We are looking to engage team members with diverse skills, experiences, and interests. These are some of the competencies and credentials we are looking for:
- Diploma and/or Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Rehabilitation, Disability Studies or a related social science
- Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Demonstrate professional documentation skills and effective listening skills (verbal, non- verbal)
- Use effective communication methods and techniques (e.g., voice mail, email)
- Demonstrates problem-solving, caring, compassion and understanding while at the same time being aware of professional boundaries
- Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism aligned with Vecova values
- Maintain a positive working relationship with all Vecova team members
- Represent Vecova in a professional manner
- Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Demonstrate a high level of administrative and IT capacity
Home specific requirements - must include a furnished, private bedroom for the consumer and shared space within the home available to provide respite housing supports
Pictures and/or description of the home, specifically the private bedroom that would be used for the respite consumer (include the size and egress measurements of the windows in the bedroom) should be included with your application to be considered
