K'en T'em is seeking an experienced and collaborative Fish and Wildlife Manager to lead the planning, delivery, and oversight of fish, wildlife, and environmental programs. In this role, you will guide technical project design, ensure regulatory reporting is completed to a high standard, and build strong relationships with clients, regulators, and community partners. You will also mentor junior staff, enhance internal practices, and contribute to the pursuit and management of contract opportunities.
Primary Duties
- Lead the design and implementation of fish and/or wildlife programs,
- Lead annual fish, wildlife, and environmental reporting. Including reports related to environmental impact assessments and permit requirements within the oil and gas, mining, and renewable energy sectors,
- Build and maintain partnerships with industry clients, provincial and federal regulators, community leaders, and other stakeholders,
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate biologists in both field and office-based deliverables.
- Develop and implement internal standard operating procedures, field methodologies, and new practices to improve efficiency and professional standards,
- Prepare responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Quotes (RFQs), and pursue contract opportunities on behalf of K'en T'em Limited Partnership,
- Manage contracts through client meetings, monthly financial tracking and ensuring reporting requirements are met,
- Coordinate field staff scheduling and support to ensure smooth and efficient project delivery, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Natural Resource Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of fish (freshwater preferred) or wildlife (e.g., bats, birds, amphibians, raptors, mammals) inventory standards, ecology, and behaviour,
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements,
- Familiarity with federal and provincial legislation and regulations governing fish, wildlife, and habitat management,
- Familiarity with Indigenous environmental governance and community engagement is an asset,
- Experience evaluating the potential impacts of large infrastructure projects on valued components (VCs), with preference for experience leading fish or wildlife components in provincial and federal environmental assessments; or
- Experience managing fish or wildlife programs related to permit requirements for the mining or oil and gas sectors,
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining budgets and meeting deadlines,
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe,
- Experience with GIS and R is considered an asset, and
- Willingness to learn beginner nłeʔkepmxcín, nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.
Experience and Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field,
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience, including field-based work,
- Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or management role,
- Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) designation or the ability to obtain it,
- Successful completion of a criminal background check, and
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable personal vehicle.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 30-minute paid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 40 hours per week,
- Overtime: As per the BC Employment Standards Act (BCESA) Managers are not eligible for overtime,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the K'en T'em office in Merritt or Kamloops BC,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
