K'en T'em is seeking motivated individual(s) to join our team as Reclamation Field Technicians for the 2026 season (May – August). As a Reclamation Field Technician, you will assist with monitoring, locating, collecting, processing, and storing a wide variety of local seeds. This role also includes invasive species treatment, planting, and other hands-on work as required.
Primary Duties
- Field reconnaissance to identify new target areas,
- Collecting and processing seed from target species, including learning and applying plant-specific collection and processing protocols (e.g., threshing, drying),
- Storing and inventorying seeds, including utilizing cold storage, labeling, and recording the amount collected,
- Surveying and field mapping using GIS and other mapping systems/technology,
- Recording and reporting data using a field journal,
- Monitoring and treating invasive species with the use of mechanical, cultural, and chemical controls,
- Providing reclamation and restoration support, including installing various plant materials for projects,
- Performing general labour tasks, including landscaping and planting duties, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Reclamations Service Lead.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to identify a wide range of plant material,
- Understanding of botanical phenology, including plant life cycles,
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, while maintaining effective communication with team leads and team members,
- Strong navigation skills, with the ability to utilize provided maps, GPS devices, and other navigation tools to accurately locate, pinpoint and identify specific areas marked for collection or research activities,
- Proficient in using common landscape mechanical and hand tools,
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, walk long distances, crouch, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs semi-regularly,
- Apply environmental best practices to support sustainable and responsible operations of collections assistant duties, and
- Willingness to learn beginner nłeʔkepmxcín, nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.
Experience and Requirements
- Experience in a related field is considered an asset,
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable personal vehicle,
- Criminal Record Check, and
- The drive to learn and excel in the position.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Hours of operation may fluctuate based on project needs, ranging from 8-hour days (5 days/week) to 10-hour days (4 days/week). On average, 40 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be paid out at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be paid out at 2x, and
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the K'en T'em office at 1355 Nicola Ave, Merritt BC, with the expectation that this position is primarily field based.
