The Environmental Professional plays a hands-on role in contributing knowledge from their areas of expertise to a diverse set of projects related to mining, oil and gas, and other industrial activities. In this position, you'll lead field-based environmental sampling programs and transform results into meaningful data that supports clients in conducting business on the land. You will work directly with the K'en T'em Environmental Services Manager, collaborating on client needs, technical challenges, safety priorities, and continuous improvement in quality assurance and control. This role is well-suited for someone who brings initiative, sound judgment, and experience in areas such as water quality sampling, terrestrial assessments, contaminated sites, or regulatory compliance. You'll work both independently and alongside a collaborative team, conducting yourself with professionalism, respect, integrity, and a high level of care and diligence in every task – from the field to the final report.

Primary Duties

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures,
  • Work closely with clients to ensure regulatory requirements are met,
  • Be responsible for implementing and supporting field crews in multiple, broad-based sampling and monitoring programs and collection of biological and chemical data to confirm compliance and determine environmental conditions,
  • Be responsible for the care, routine maintenance, repair, and calibration of monitoring and sample collection equipment and instrumentation,
  • Lead environmental and regulatory reporting activities for a variety of different industries,
  • Carry out environmental data entry, review, and management,
  • Liaise with clients for the purposes of facilitating compliance assurance, and
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Committed to undertaking training to further skills in environmental monitoring, statistical analysis, and leadership,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong technical writing skills,
  • Positive attitude towards implementing health and safety systems,
  • Knowledge of BC permitting requirements regarding mining and other industries,
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and manage time effectively,
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental and waste legislation, standards, and effective industry practices (BC Field Sampling Handbook, BC Hydrometric Standards) an asset,
  • Ability to work productively with minimal supervision and work independently in remote locations, and outside in inclement weather conditions,
  • Knowledge of nłeʔkepmx cultural values, and willingness to learn nłeʔkepmx protocols, beginner nłeʔkepmxcín, and
  • Recognizes and respects cultural diversity.

Experience and Requirements

  • Must be experienced RP Bio, PAg, PGeo, or other relevant BC professional designation, or close to achieving designation,
  • Graduate degree in an environmental field is considered an asset (Sciences, Geography, Geology, Forestry, etc.),
  • Minimum two years of relevant environmental experience with supervisory experience considered an asset,
  • Environmental data management software (GIS/EQuIS) and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite are an asset,
  • Familiarity with working in an industrial setting is considered an asset,
  • Willingness to travel for work and a valid Class 5 driver's license with the ability to safely operate equipment: i.e. 4x4 trucks, boats, augers, snowmobiles, etc., and
  • Minimum age of 18, in accordance with the Mines Act 3.2.1.

Work Environment

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 30-minute paid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 40 hours per week,
  • Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
  • Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the K'en T'em office at 1355 Nicola Ave, Merritt BC, with the expectation of field work as needed,
  • Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
  • Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
  • Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
  • Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
