**Assistant Head of Lower School**

Reporting to the Head of the Lower, the Lower School Assistant Head supports the academic and social emotional lives of the students in the division, acts as a liaison between students, parents, and the faculty and administration. Manages and champions the development of Lower School faculty in conjunction with the Head of Lower School.

**Responsibilities**:

- Creates a culture of unity, respect and cooperation in keeping with the School’s core values
- Establishes, maintains and enforces School rules and procedures for student conduct by assisting with disciplinary issues, correcting uniform infractions, and addressing any attendance concerns
- Assists with developing and maintaining a positive and supportive leadership team for staff by participating in Leadership Team and Assistant Heads meetings, and reporting information
- Facilitates faculty meetings regarding academic and social concerns of students, including the implementation of specific, current research pedagogies that support the education of boys
- Manages, coaches and champions faculty in conjunction with the Division Head
- Creates a supportive and welcoming environment for students and families by communicating information through the weekly School newsletter, responding to inquiries, and hosting and attending Lower School events
- Maintains current knowledge of best practices by engaging in professional learning opportunities
- Coordinates and oversees Lower School faculty participation in co-curricular activities by communicating and scheduling program offerings, setting and assigning daily duty responsibilities, overseeing the After Care program and other Lower School events
- Collaborates with the Division Head to prepare a master class schedule and assigns faculty and students to classes
- Acts as the Learning Coach in coordination with the Lower School Student Services
- Collaborates with the Head of Lower School, Middle and Upper School Assistant Heads, and the Academic team in the recruitment and orientation of supply teachers to ensure they understand School policies and procedures
- Liaises with the Crescent Parent Association (CPA)
- Plans and oversees experiential learning experiences (Intersession, Camp Excursions, etc)
- Participates in the enrolment process as necessary
- Completes other duties as required
- Bachelor or Masters of Education and in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
- 5+ years of classroom teaching experience in the appropriate age group or division
- 3+ years in a management role, supervising and coaching direct reports
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing
- Displays excellent public speaking and presentation development skills
- Displays firmness and fairness in relations with staff and students and manage issues in a calm and solution-oriented manner
- Demonstrates good problem-solving skills with a focus on creative resolution and continuous improvement
- Has strategic academic vision and current on educational research, pedagogy and requirements
- Has the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and adjust priorities accordingly
- Has proficiency with computers (MS Office, Google Suite)
- Displays a high degree of confidentiality when handling sensitive information
