**Position Summary**:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for the general accounting functions, including the preparation of journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules and accounts. Responsible to generate financial accounts by branch and consolidated. Manage month and period-end closings and account analysis. Manage the day to day responsibilities of the Accounting Department.
**Responsibilities**:
Monthly/Every Period:
- Prepare period-end journal entries
- Complete general ledger operations
- Review P&L by branch
- Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts
- Prepare analysis of accounts every period-end and as requested
- Prepare period-end reports as required, such as financial dashboard, financial analysis & commentaries, cartage analysis, marketing expenses review, Hyperion actual to budget
- Payroll analysis including overtime, hours worked, distribution of labour and payroll pivot report
- Prepare monthly report to Rona Hyperion template
- Assist the Sales Manager in sales commissions computations/accruals
- Preparation of payroll reports by branch, including vacation accrual
- Work closely with HR to reconcile pension, payroll, RSP and other benefit accounts
- Consult with VP-Wholesale on Hyperion results vs Infor reports
Annually:
- Manage year-end closing and preparation of lead sheets and audit files
- Prepare and manage the annual budget process by branch and consolidated
- Work directly with Branch Managers and Operations Manager on physical inventory counts and reconciliation of results
- Year-end system rollover
Ongoing/Weekly/Daily:
- Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures
- Review system daily balancing reports
- Ensure accuracy of financial statements in accordance with IFRS/GAAP and compliance to internal/head office policies
- Coordinate and review open bank items
- Review and approve payables cheque signing
- Review and remit weekly sales to RONA
- Review with Store or Branch Managers open cash sale items
- Provide analytical review of reports, as requested by Branch and Store Managers
- Perform such other accounting, financial or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time
- Prepare and distribute labour distribution reports
**Qualifications**:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in general accounting
- Experience managing a team of finance employees
- General knowledge of payroll procedures
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting
- Exceptional technical accounting skills
- Experience with accounting systems such as SX Ent
